Location: 5010 Solid Waste & Recycling
Pay Grade: A09
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Under general supervision, assesses safety and training needs of the Solid Waste and Recycling Department; designs and implements training programs to meet identified needs.
*This position performs duties deemed to be “safety-sensitive" and is therefore subjected to random drug testing under the City’s policies* Essential Job Functions

- Assesses training needs in the department as determined by reviews of accident/injury reports.
- Develops and implements in-house training programs; designs criteria to measure effectiveness in meeting organization goals.
- Investigates accidents/injuries to determine causes.
- Develops safety measures to correct unsafe work practices as determined by reviews of accidents/injury reports.
- Evaluates staff as they operate equipment and makes corrections and suggestions to management as necessary.
- Communicates with management on areas of concern.
- Trains new employees in correct operation of all equipment and safety procedures.
- Prepares required records, reports, and other correspondence.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience
Requires an Associates degree plus two years of experience in solid waste operations, or an equivalent amount of education and experience. Requires experience in operating a commercial vehicle requiring a Class B or higher license, which includes one year of lead or training experience. Experience in a safety or training related role is preferred. Must possess a valid Class B or higher Oklahoma Driver’s License at time of appointment and maintain said license for the entire term of employment in this class.
Physical Requirements
Tasks involve the ability to exert physical effort in conjunction with solid waste and recycling collections activities. Typically involving combinations of balancing, feeling, handling, hearing, kneeling, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials with weights not to exceed 50 pounds. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
