Pay Grade: A04
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Under general supervision of the Recreation Center Supervisor. The Recreation Assistant creates, plans, and implements programs with assigned groups of all ages in varying events and activities both indoors and outdoors. Does related work as required.
*This position performs duties deemed to be “safety sensitive" and is therefore subjected to random drug testing under the City’s policies*
Essential Job Functions

- Create, Plan, and Implement a variety of recreation programs, activities, and camps such as games, sports, trips, dance, music, story-telling, nature, STEM, special events, tournaments, etc.
- Teaches assigned programs/ activities within the facility.
- Promote programs, and activities across all physical and digital media platforms.
- Schedule facility use so that activities do not conflict with one another.
- Open and Closes park/facilities according to schedule. Required to report to work at the appointed hour, as scheduled, and work entire assigned schedule.
- Resolve customer conflicts regarding programing and facility usage
- Maintain an accurate inventory of program supplies and equipment prior to the start of the program.
- Checks patrons in at the recreation center and handles payments from those making reservations for facilities, activities, and events.
- Attended center and division staff meetings;
- Inspects facilities and equipment as a safety measure;
- Sets up a variety of equipment not limited to chairs, tables, and sports equipment.
- Demonstrates outstanding customer service skills and ability to resolve conflicts.
- Answers the telephone; provides information or transfer calls to appropriate personnel.
- Photographs each event and activity for the newsletter, Facebook, and as reference for future planning.
- Maintains electronic thermostats, alarm systems, and clocks for various buildings.
- Attends monthly staff meetings, and address concerns with supervisors regarding equipment maintenance and membership issues.
- Gives first aid when necessary;
- Performs custodial duties; maintains and restocks supplies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience

Requires a High School Diploma or GED equivalent, supplemented by one to two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a CPR/First Aid and AED certification and a valid Driver’s License issued by the State of Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment offered.

Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, walking, and which involves some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 50 pounds).
