Job Description

Location: 5120 GS Fleet Maintenance
Pay Grade: A12
FLSA Status: Non- Exempt

Under general supervision, performs repair and maintenance of emergency fire protection and public safety vehicles and equipment. Also performs preventative maintenance, routine maintenance/repairs, and emergency repairs on all City-owned vehicles, including Construction Equipment, Automobiles, Light, Medium, and Heavy-Duty Trucks, Fire Apparatus, Ambulances, Police Pursuit units as well as other Fleet assets.

*This position performs duties deemed to be “safety-sensitive" and is therefore subjected to random drug testing under the City’s policies*

Essential Job Functions

  • Performs routine preventative maintenance on the City’s fleet of standard and emergency vehicles and equipment.
  • Performs troubleshooting and accurate diagnoses of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and computerized vehicle components.
  • Performs scheduled and unscheduled repairs to the City’s fleet of standard and emergency vehicles and equipment.
  • Repairs standard and emergency vehicles and equipment conforming to industry, City, State, and Federal standards.
  • Responds to roadside or field repairs.
  • Utilizes fleet maintenance software to record detailed and accurate documentation of service and repairs.
  • Conducts new vehicle and equipment check-in, make-ready, and decommissioning operations.
  • Performs good housekeeping practices to maintain the shop, work area, tools, and equipment in a safe and orderly manner.
  • Test drives/operate vehicles and equipment before and after repairs.
  • Interacts in a professional and respectful manner with coworkers, other city employees, vendors, and the public.
  • Makes emergency service calls as required.
  • Attends training and safety meetings to ensure proper methods and work practices.
  • Learns to operate new technologies as they are developed and implemented.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience

Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent, supplemented by five to seven years of experience in gasoline, diesel and hydraulic mechanics, including two years experience in heavy equipment and/or emergency vehicles; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Requires possession of a valid Class B CDL Driver’s License issued by the State of Oklahoma upon hire. Must obtain and maintain a valid Oklahoma Class A CDL with hazmat and tanker endorsement within 18 months of employment.

Must possess and maintain current certification as an ASE Master in either Medium/Heavy Truck (T Series) or Automobile and Light Truck (A Series) or a EVT Master Technician. Must obtain Motor Vehicle A/C license valid under section 609 of the Clean Air Act by an EPA-approved program within 6 months from hire.

Certification pay clearly communicates how leadership may award additional pay for employees who obtain skills and training beneficial to the City. Certification pay will include $25 per certification received, to a maximum of five (5) certifications paid, above and beyond the requirements of the position.
Certifications: ASE Advanced Engine Performance Specialist Certification (L1) and ASE Electronic Diesel Engine Diagnosis Specialist Certification (L2)

Physical Requirements

Tasks involve the ability to exert exceptionally strong physical effort in very heavy work, typically involving some combination of balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, handling, hearing, kneeling, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity, walking and which involves some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 150 pounds).
