Pay Grade: A07
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Under general supervision, enforces the City of Broken Arrow's municipal codes.
*This position performs duties deemed to be “safety-sensitive" and is therefore subjected to random drug testing under the City’s policies*
Essential Job Functions

- Enforces city ordinances, including health and safety nuisance codes, zoning codes, building and property maintenance codes, sign and tent codes, land subdivision codes, an itinerant merchant codes.
- Removes illegal signs, as needed.
- Responds to questions and complaints from the general public, other agencies, and city departments.
- Reviews, processes, and approves sign permit applications.
- Processes case investigations; obtains and properly logs photographs and documents in computer; routes cases for efficient handling; schedules cases for public hearings; schedules cases for follow-up and compliance.
- Reads and utilizes plat maps to determine correct ownership and parcel information.
- Mediates case resolutions and issues citations for code violations.
- Initiates the towing and impounding of abandoned, inoperable vehicles.
- Organizes and facilitates community meetings on code related issues.
- Researches legal information for property owners, mortgage holders, and interested parties; drafts notices and letters for code violations.
- Presents nuisance cases or provides testimony to public hearing officer or municipal/district court judges as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience
Requires a High School Diploma or GED equivalent, supplemented by one to two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Driver's License issued by the State of Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Possession of or ability to readily obtain an Oklahoma Code Enforcement Association Certification.
Physical Requirements
Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate physical effort in medium work, typically involving some combination of balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, handling, hearing, kneeling, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, walking and which involves some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 50 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
