Location: 6000 Parks
Pay Grade: A08
FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Under general supervision, leads and participates in the maintenance and operation of irrigation systems within the Parks and Recreation Department.


*This position performs duties deemed to be “safety-sensitive” and is therefore subjected to random drug testing under the City’s policies*

Essential Job Functions

  • Assists supervisor with prioritizing, scheduling, assigning and quality control of division(s) irrigation tasks.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot irrigation issues related to 2-wire and conventional systems.
  • Ability to maintain and repair all aspects of irrigation systems including but not limited to- valves, waterlines, controllers, low voltage wiring, rotors, drip lines, backflow devices, etc.
  • Oversees and assists Divisions’ Irrigation Technicians.
  • Assists supervisor with staff training on proper irrigation practices.
  • Maintains inventory of irrigation materials and equipment.
  • Plans materials and tools required to complete work tasks.
  • Assists with irrigation system plan review.
  • Assists with ground maintenance duties including mowing, trimming, seeding/sodding, debris removal, etc.
  • Operates equipment including, but not limited to, - dump truck, skid steer, backhoe, tractor, trencher, etc.
  • Performs site inspections as required.
  • May perform chemical applications.
  • Assists with GIS tracking of irrigation components.
  • Assists supervisor with personnel evaluations.
  • Participates in snow and ice removal duties.
  • May be asked to perform duties of the section supervisor in their absence.
  • Works under the supervision of the Lead Grounds Supervisor.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience

Requires a High School Diploma or GED equivalent, supplemented by one to three years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Class D Oklahoma Driver's License. Ability to obtain a Service Technicians Pesticide license issued by the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture.

Physical Requirements

Tasks involve the ability to exert exceptionally strong physical effort in very heavy work, typically involving some combination of balancing, climbing, crawling, and crouching, feeling, handling, hearing, kneeling, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity, walking and which involves some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 150 pounds).
