Job Summary / Organizational Impact

Responsible for the Quality of RL Hudson’s products and for driving continuous improvement initiatives within RL Hudson and its supply base. Manages all internal and external quality issues, ensuring timely and effective closure. Serves as the organization’s 8D leader and problem-solving subject matter expert providing training and facilitation as needed. Oversees the Quality Inspection Laboratory, including its personnel, processes and equipment.

The effectiveness of this position bears directly on the operating performance of the Company.

Responsibilities and Essential Function

  1. Ensuring that all products adhere to RL Hudson’s, its customers and industry quality standard.
  2. Lead the corrective action efforts internally and assist suppliers as required, utilizing 8Ds methodology. Manage communication and relations between RLH and the customer as well as between RLH and suppliers if needed.
  3. Working with the supply chain team support supplier Quality Engineering initiatives with regional suppliers (perform audits, monitor performance…).
  4. Develop and report quality metrics that measure progress towards Quality Improvements and Customer scorecards.
  5. Manage Quality Inspection lab (personnel, processes and equipment maintenance, calibrations and certifications).
  6. Plan and coordinate continuous improvement (C.I.) events such Kaizen events or six sigma projects.
  7. Perform other tasks and responsibilities as required or assigned

Desired Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must possess good decision making and analytical skills
  • Must be organized and detail oriented. Must be able to manage many projects simultaneously and be able to switch focus frequently while maintaining overall effectiveness
  • Must possess exceptional communication skills, and be able to communicate well with others, internally and externally
  • Must be able to lead teams in improvement activities and result in clear actions needed for improvement
  • Must possess thorough understanding of Quality Management Systems such as ISO 9001 or IATF 16949
  • General knowledge of MRP/ERP systems, inventory systems, PPAP and APQP processes
  • Must be able to read and comprehend engineering drawings including GD&T Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing. Knowledge of various standards, practices, & specifications including ASME, ANSI, ASTM, SAE, RMA. Basic understanding of tooling, fixture, and gage design preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn programs including BC (Business Central), Document control, Claims Control and others

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • ASQ Quality Engineering Certification (CQE)
  • Lean / Six Sigma Green Belt Certification
  • 4 plus years of quality related experience in a decision-making position
  • Experience with manufacturing processes related to rubber and plastic product including extrusion, compression molding, and injection molding preferred.
  • Knowledge and working experience with AIAG core tools (APQP, PFMEA, SPC, MSA…)
  • Experience working on an IATF16949 environment
  • Able to challenge the status quo looking for continual improvement promoting team work.

SPECIAL JOB DIMENSIONS:

• Some travel may be required to customers and domestic or international suppliers.

• Flexibility to answer emails and/or have conference calls with factories at night is very helpful.

• This position is occasionally exposed to the following environmental conditions: subject to air and/or skin exposure to oils and/or other hazardous materials, sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level and one or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or skin: fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation
